Guide : World Mobile AirNodes Explained

AirNodes are at the center of World Mobile’s telecommunications infrastructure. As part of a blockchain-based sharing economy, AirNodes create the last-mile layer that brings voice, text, and data services to World Mobile customers. Community members can own and operate AirNodes, making the network more open and accessible.

AirNodes can connect users directly or link with other AirNodes to form a flexible, mesh-like network. They can be set up for many different situations, from basic Wi-Fi access points to advanced deployments. AirNodes are also adaptable to places without regular electricity because they can use solar or other power sources to keep people connected, even in the hardest-to-reach areas.

Types of AirNodes

World Mobile offers different types of AirNodes, each designed for specific use cases and coverage needs. Here’s a quick overview:

  • Spark AirNode:
Spark AirNodes are devices that provide internet within a 150-metre radius. They’re designed to function as both private and public access points. That means one Spark AirNode can power a home or business while also sharing connectivity with the surrounding community.

  • Portal AirNode:
BPortal AirNodes are powerful wireless devices that give strong LTE coverage over a wide area. They’re ideal for bringing internet to villages, towns, or busy neighborhoods. Each Portal uses CBRS (Band 48) and is usually set up on a rooftop or tower

  • Apex AirNode:
Apex AirNodes are powerful wireless devices that deliver fast, high-capacity internet over long distances. With a range of up to 30 km, they can connect large groups of customers and serve as the main hub for other AirNodes nearby. Apex AirNodes also provide backhaul connections to Link AirNodes within their coverage area.

  • Link AirNode:
Link AirNodes are wireless receivers installed at homes or businesses. They give subscribers a reliable, high-speed internet connection. Link AirNodes work with Apex AirNodes to bring the internet directly to where it’s needed, acting as the final link for customers.

  • Titan AirNode:
World Mobile’s most powerful AirNode. The Titan is a large-scale base station built to provide long-range, high-capacity coverage for entire towns or city districts, acting as the backbone of the network.

Participate & Become an AirNode Operator

You can help grow the World Mobile network in a few different ways:

AirNode Operator

An AirNode Operator buys AirNodes and manages them remotely using an online dashboard. You don’t need technical skills, just the ability to invest and check on your AirNodes from time to time. All technical setup and maintenance are handled for you. Operators earn rewards based on the amount of internet their AirNodes provide to the community.

AirNode Host

An AirNode Host provides a good location with a reliable power supply for an AirNode. This is a great choice if you have a rooftop, shop, or open space that can help expand network coverage. Hosts do not need to buy or manage any equipment, operators take care of that. Hosts earn a share of the rewards based on the services delivered through their location.

Getting Started as an AirNode Operator

Becoming an AirNode Operator is easy. Here’s what to do:

1. Buy Your AirNode
Visit the Club Store and purchase the AirNode that fits your needs and budget. Each AirNode covers different areas and offers different rewards.

2. Create Your Operator Account
Register at airnode.worldmobile.net to access your AirNode dashboard and operator tools.

3. Connect with Hosts (Optional)
If you’re deploying a Portal or Titan AirNode, you can match with Hosts who will provide a location and help manage the equipment.

5. Monitor Your AirNode
Track your AirNode’s uptime, performance, and connections in real time from your dashboard.

6. Start Earning Rewards
As soon as your AirNode is live and providing connectivity, you’ll begin earning rewards for supporting the network.

Understanding AirNode Rewards

How Rewards Work

As an AirNode Operator, your earnings depend on the type of AirNode you run and how it’s used in the network:

  • For Spark AirNodes:
Rewards are fixed. Each Spark pays a set monthly amount, no matter how many users connect or how much data is used. This makes Spark a simple, predictable option for smaller deployments.
  • For Portal, Link, Apex, and Titan AirNodes:
Rewards are variable and based mainly on two factors:
    1. Uptime: The more reliably your AirNode stays online and available, the better your rewards. Keeping your AirNode running smoothly is key.
    2. Subscribers/Usage: The number of users (or subscribers) who connect to your AirNode has a direct impact on your earnings. More users means higher rewards.

For larger AirNodes like the Titan, there’s an extra layer, Overwatch rewards, which means you can also earn a percentage of revenue from all users connecting within the Titan’s coverage area, not just those directly using your node.

Payment Schedule

  • Rewards add up every day and you can see them in your dashboard.
  • At the end of each month, your total rewards are calculated.
  • Payments are sent within 10 business days of the next month.
  • For example, rewards from September are paid out by mid-October.

How You Get Paid

You can choose to get your rewards in regular money (fiat), stablecoins, or soon in WMTx tokens.

Managing Your AirNode with the Dashboard

How to Access

Log in to the AirNode Sales Platform and click the user icon to open your dashboard.

What You Can See

The dashboard gives you real-time info about your AirNode, including:

  • Balance and Earnings:
See how much you’ve earned this month and what’s available to claim at month-end.
  • Network Usage:
Track how much data your AirNode is handling for the community.
  • Operational Status:
Check if your AirNode is online right now and see how often it’s been active over the past month.

These tools help you keep track of your AirNode’s performance and get the most out of your participation.

AirNode Warranty

All Spark AirNodes purchased from The Club Store include a 10-year limited hardware warranty starting from the day you receive your device.

This warranty covers permanent hardware failures that stop the device from working, as long as the issue is not caused by physical damage, misuse, or outside events like power loss or natural disasters.

If your AirNode fails due to a hardware defect, The Club will arrange for repair, replacement, or compensation, depending on the situation.
