What’s the role of Hex Guardians and how are they different from Hosts/Operators?

Trying to get a better handle on what exactly Hex Guardians do in the World Mobile ecosystem.

I get that AirNode Hosts provide the location and Operators run the hardware but where do Hex Guardians fit in? Are they managing multiple nodes in a region? Is it more of a coordination/community role, or do they have technical responsibilities too?

Hey @woopin, welcome to the community, great to have you here!

You’ve got the basics right. AirNode Hosts provide the physical location like a rooftop or tower, and Operators are the ones setting up and managing the hardware to keep things running.

Hex Guardians are more of a community and coordination role. They focus on a specific Hex, which is a mapped region in the World Mobile network, and work to grow and optimize coverage there.

They don’t have to own or operate any AirNodes themselves, though some might. Instead, their responsibilities are more about:

  • Connecting with Hosts and Operators in their area
  • Identifying where coverage is needed
  • Promoting World Mobile to potential users and contributors
  • Helping coordinate deployments and growth efforts

Think of Hex Guardians as the local champions for their zones. They help bring everything together to make sure the network expands smoothly and stays community-powered.
