What is the difference between Dev Mainnet and Mainnet?

I’ve seen mentions of “Dev Mainnet” and “Mainnet” in different updates, but it’s not totally clear what the actual difference is.

Is Dev Mainnet just a testing phase on live infrastructure? Or is it like a soft launch with limited functionality before things fully go live? And if so, what’s missing right now vs. what’s planned for full Mainnet?

Hey @tiago2020, welcome to the community!

Dev Mainnet is a live, production-grade version of the World Mobile Chain. It uses real $WMTX, on-chain identity data, and includes key modules like staking and smart contracts. The difference is that it’s currently only accessible to trusted developers and partners. The goal is to test everything in real-world conditions before opening it up to everyone.

Mainnet refers to when public access is enabled, meaning anyone can interact with the chain, stake, bridge tokens, or deploy apps. There’s no reset or chain switch between Dev Mainnet and Mainnet, it’s the same chain, just gated now for security and testing.

So think of Dev Mainnet as the final staging ground, and Mainnet as the moment doors officially open to all.

Thanks, that makes sense now. Didn’t realize Dev Mainnet was the actual chain, just gated. Sounds like Mainnet is basically ready, just waiting to be fully unlocked. Appreciate the clarity!
