What are the annual costs of hosting and maintaining an airnode?

For those hosting an AirNode, what’s the average yearly cost for electricity and general maintenance? Are there any unexpected expenses to consider?

Hosting an AirNode comes with some costs, but they’re manageable.

The biggest factors are the type of radio you’re using (larger ones like Titans or Apex consume more power than Links or Sparks) and whether you need to provide backhaul (an internet connection). Electricity usage is usually low since these are just radio transmitters, so your power bill won’t see a big jump. Backhaul costs depend on your setup—if you already have a stable internet connection, the extra cost may be minimal, but a dedicated connection could add to expenses. Maintenance is rare, keeping costs low.

The good news? Whatever you spend is typically covered—and largely offset—by the earnings you make as a host.
