Server operating system

So I am installing Ubuntu onto my pc which has 3 nvme drives installed… 2x 250GB and 1x 4TB

Am I better to have the operating system on one of the smaller drives and keep the 4TB drive free for the programmes and node software ?

Also when setting up partitions during the install is it best to leave other drives as ‘free space’ or set them to ‘ext4’ space

Thanks in advance, just want to make sure my set up is optimal

Hi @JamesEN500

I recommend installing the OS on one of the 250GB drives and reserving the 4TB drive for the node. Once the Ubuntu installation is complete, you can format the 4TB drive as ext4 and mount it to store the node software and data.

I think the volume of storage you have is future proof (for storing the blockchain), Cardano is about 200 to 400gb ish.

Thanks for the advice

I’ve now installed Ubuntu onto one of the 250gb drives
Had a few issues trying to get the operating system to install at first as it kept crashing.
Turned out to be my ram, after doing some research it turns out that 4 sticks of ddr5 is not ideal, had 2x16gb before running 5600mhz, added another 2 x16gb to the system (64gb total) and it made it unstable

After some tweaking in the bios managed to get it stable but only running at 3600mhz… apparently this is a known issue with intel motherboards, hopefully with some more bios tweaking I can get the mhz back up to a decent speed, I think there is a new bios on the asus website so maybe I’ll flash it
I have run several cycles of memtest86 and it has not flagged any errors.
Failing that I’ll sell the 4 sticks and just go with 2x 32gb sticks of ram which I know will run at 5600mhz
