World Mobile has begun its network deployment in Pakistan, marking another milestone in its global expansion. With 220 million citizens and ambitious Vision 2025 development goals, Pakistan presents a unique opportunity for World Mobile’s sharing economy model.
The Digital Landscape
Despite Pakistan’s impressive growth to 194 million mobile connections since the 1990s, a significant digital divide persists. While only 10% of the population lacks coverage, a striking 60% usage gap exists - meaning many Pakistanis live in covered areas but don’t subscribe to mobile internet, primarily due to affordability concerns.
Breaking New Ground
In partnership with WorldCall Telecom Limited, a tech company that evolved from a payphone service provider in 1996 to a major telecommunications player, World Mobile has begun its network deployment with initial AirNodes. This collaboration leverages WorldCall’s existing infrastructure to bring more accessible and affordable connectivity to Pakistan.
“Pakistan’s dynamic and rapidly expanding economy presents us with a significant opportunity to introduce our sharing economy and provide meaningful connectivity,” says Micky Watkins, World Mobile CEO.
