iPhone Tethering vs. Hotspot on World Mobile

I need some help figuring out how iPhone tethering vs a hotspot would work with World Mobile.

I travel a lot to remote areas where the internet is absolute garbage (think 2mbps max on a good day). Since I work remotely, that’s just not cutting it.

If I switch to the World Mobile Advanced eSIM, can I set up a separate hotspot device, or would I have to tether from my iPhone instead? And if that’s the case, is a separate hotspot device even worth it?

Also, is the non-priority speed fast enough for remote work, or am I setting myself up for frustration?

Hello @ryan,

Right now, World Mobile has only confirmed compatibility with a selection of Apple, Samsung, and Google devices. You can check the full list here: Is My Phone Compatible with World Mobile?.

At the moment, it doesn’t seem possible to set up a dedicated hotspot device with World Mobile. This could change in the future, but for now, using a compatible phone with tethering is the only option.

Since tethering is fully supported, here’s what we recommend for your setup:

  • Add the Advanced Plan (30GB of high-priority data) on your compatible phone and use it while traveling to remote areas. You’ll be able to tether for work and get the best possible speed.
  • When in areas with better connectivity, you can switch back to your regular SIM or simply keep using World Mobile.

It’s hard to say how well non-priority data will work once your 30GB of high-priority data runs out. Speeds will depend on your local network infrastructure, congestion, and how you use your connection. If your work requires consistent high speeds, testing the Advanced plan first and monitoring performance would be a good approach.

Let us know how it works out for you.
