International Data Overages on World Mobile – What Happens When You Exceed the Quota?

Hey everyone!

I’m traveling overseas in April and looking into the Global Access plan. While I understand the amount of international data included, I can’t seem to find details on what happens if I exceed my quota.

Not saying I will go over my limit during my 3-week trip, but I think I’ll be close. So I have a few questions:

  • What happens when I use up all my allocated data?
  • Are there overage charges, or does data just stop working?
  • Is there an add-on available for extra data?
  • If I run out of data, can I still access the website/app to purchase more?

Thanks in advance!

Hey @drum3, welcome to the forum!

For the Global Access plan, once you’ve used your allocated 20GB of high-speed data, the plan simply stops working—there are no overage charges. If you’re concerned you might hit your limit, you can add a 1GB Turbo Boost for just $5. However, if you run out of data completely, you won’t be able to access the website or app to buy more data; you’ll need to connect via WiFi (or use another data SIM) until your billing cycle resets.

If you’re traveling to a specific region or country, you might want to consider the World Mobile Travel eSIM. It offers flexible data bundles across 50+ countries with options for Global, Regional, or Country-specific coverage. Like Global Access, it provides mobile data only, but you can still use OTT apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, Instagram, and Skype for voice and messaging. The Travel eSIM is generally more affordable than Global Access, though it covers fewer countries and doesn’t include all the benefits of the Global Access plan.

World Mobile should include some kind of “low data mode” just to let you top up without needing WiFi or a backup SIM.
