How Are AirNode Rewards Calculated?

I’m looking to gain a deeper understanding of how AirNode rewards are determined. Are earnings influenced by factors such as node type, country, region, or the specific hex they operate in? Additionally, does the type of service—whether data usage, calls, or other transactions—impact the payout structure?

A clear breakdown of these variables would provide transparency, helping both investors and operators make more informed and strategic decisions when the next AirNode Drop arrives.

I’d love to hear your thoughts…

The full answer probably deserves a deep-dive article at some point, but here’s the short version:

It first depends on the country. In the U.S., there are customers, AirNode operators/hosts, and World Mobile—each playing a role in the revenue structure. In Pakistan, for example, WorldCall is the official partner, acting as a third-party provider, so the reward calculations work differently there.

Next, each AirNode has different capacity, role and functions. Some are designed to handle more traffic and cover a larger area, while others serve smaller, more localized zones. Location also plays a big role—if your AirNode is in a high-demand area with lots of users, it will likely generate more rewards compared to one in a lower-traffic location.

So, while there’s no single formula, rewards depend on where your node is, how much demand exists in that area, and how the network is structured in that particular region. I will try to work on a full breakdown in the future to better explain how this plays out…
