Global Access Plan and iMessage

I’m traveling overseas and want to use World Mobile’s Global Access plan. Does anyone know if iMessage counts toward my data usage, or would I be charged extra per text exchange?

A family member is insisting I just use WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger instead, but I’d rather stick with iMessage if it’s covered.

Welcome, @poke!

iMessage runs on data, so with World Mobile’s Global Access plan, it will count toward your usage but won’t have extra per-message charges like SMS. As long as you have data left, you can send texts, photos, and videos through iMessage without additional fees.

Your family member is right that apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger also use data and might be more versatile if you’re messaging people who don’t have iMessage. But if you prefer iMessage, it will work just fine as long as your data lasts.

Just keep in mind that the Global Access plan is data-only, so it doesn’t support SMS or regular voice calls. Let us know how it works for you while traveling!
