Can I Use World Mobile eSIM with a Local Data eSIM for WiFi Calling?

Hello

I’ve got a multi eSIM iPhone and was wondering, can I use World Mobile on eSIM 1 and a local eSIM with data on eSIM 2?

The idea is to use WiFi calling on World Mobile through the data connection from the second eSIM while I’m traveling.

Will everything still work for the World Mobile number? Like voice, SMS, and iMessage?

Appreciate any insights!

Hey @highfly82, welcome aboard!

Yes, you can run World Mobile on one eSIM and a local data‑only eSIM on the other. iPhones let you mix‑and‑match plans exactly for this kind of travel setup. support.apple

How it works in real life

  1. Load both eSIMs
    • Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → scan the World Mobile QR.
    • Do the same for your local data plan.

  2. Pick who does what
    • In Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data, set the local eSIM as the default data line.
    • Leave World Mobile as the default for Voice/SMS (or vice‑versa if you prefer).
    • Optional: turn on “Allow Cellular Data Switching” so iOS can momentarily hop to the other line’s data if the voice line needs it during a call.

  3. Wi‑Fi Calling
    • World Mobile supports Wi‑Fi Calling, so when you’re on actual Wi‑Fi (hotel, café, Airbnb) your WM number will ring and you can place calls as if you were back home.
    • What it won’t do is tunnel Wi‑Fi Calling through the local eSIM’s cellular data. Apple only triggers Wi‑Fi Calling over, well… real Wi‑Fi. If there’s no Wi‑Fi around, your WM line will fall back to normal cellular (roaming) for voice/SMS.

  4. iMessage / FaceTime
    • In Settings → Messages / FaceTime → Send & Receive, choose the WM number (and/or email) you want people to reach you on.
    • iMessage itself rides on whatever internet connection is active, so it’ll happily use the local data eSIM even if you’ve disabled data roaming on the WM line.

  5. SMS & regular calls
    • SMS always needs the WM radio to connect (or Wi‑Fi Calling if you’re on Wi‑Fi).
    • If you’re in a country where WM doesn’t have roaming yet, incoming SMS/calls simply won’t land until you hit Wi‑Fi again. WM’s T&Cs also note Wi‑Fi Calling can be blocked in some countries due to local regs, so double‑check your destination.

Once you’ve done the initial setup, iOS handles the juggling automatically. Safe travels, and let us know how the combo works out!
