I get that World Mobile plans are unlimited and work across multiple networks, but compared to other options like Mint Mobile ($15/month) or Visible ($35/month) which are also unlimited, the pricing feels really high.
Is there something I’m missing? Curious to hear what others think.
I totally get where you’re coming from. If you’re just comparing prices on paper, World Mobile looks pricey next to something like Mint or Visible. But there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes that explains the cost, and in some cases, the long-term value is actually better.
Here’s the breakdown:
1. World Mobile is an MNO, not just an MVNO.
You might not notice a big difference when using your phone day to day, but this is one of the main reasons for the higher cost. World Mobile is building and operating its own physical infrastructure, just like Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T. That means you’re not just renting space on someone else’s towers, you’re connecting directly to a growing network they control and deploy themselves.
2. Plan costs will decrease over time.
As World Mobile expands and more infrastructure comes online, it becomes cheaper to route data through their own network. That savings can be passed on to users, which is the opposite of how most mobile carriers operate (prices increase!).
3. You get to use the best coverage in your area.
Depending on where you are, you’ll either connect to their own infrastructure or one of their partner networks, whichever gives you the strongest signal. Mint only uses T-Mobile, and Visible only uses Verizon, but World Mobile dynamically picks the best option available for your location.
4. Privacy is built in from the start.
Your data is encrypted, routed through a VPN, and stored in a decentralized way. You get things like SIM swap protection, identity theft insurance, and full access to your usage records. Your data is never sold. Period.
5. No hidden fees, ever.
No activation charges, overages, weird taxes, or cancellation fees. You can upgrade, downgrade, or pause your plan without paying extra. What you see is what you pay.
6. You can earn rewards through Premier Staking.
With as little as 100 WMTx (around twenty dollars right now), you can unlock monthly cashback and other perks. It’s one of the only phone plans that gives back just for being part of the network.
If you live in a city with great coverage and all you want is the cheapest unlimited plan possible, those other services are a solid option. But if you live in a poorly connected area, care about privacy, want better coverage when you travel, or like the idea of a network that’s actually owned by its users, then World Mobile might be the better fit.
It’s not just a phone plan. It’s a whole new way to connect.
The WM mission is strong, and the added features are definitely unique. For some people, that’s game-changing.
But here’s the thing: not everyone’s looking for that. A lot of users just want reliable coverage at the lowest possible price. When you stack $59 or $85/month next to $15–$30 plans from Mint or Visible, it’s a tough sell, especially if you want a ton of data, or you just don’t care about Web3 features.
Even if the long-term value is there, the upfront cost feels like a real barrier for most people. That matters, especially in a competitive market.
If World Mobile wants to reach beyond the crypto crowd and attract more everyday users, offering smaller, entry-level plans or more flexible pricing would make a big difference. To win big, the price has to meet people where they are.
World Mobile isn’t trying to compete on being the cheapest. The goal is something completely different: giving people ownership of their data, protecting privacy, and actually letting users help build and benefit from the network.
It’s not just another MVNO reselling bandwidth. WM combines its own infrastructure with major carriers like Verizon and T-Mobile, plus things like a built-in VPN, SIM-swap protection, no contracts, and real network-level privacy. That’s a very different value proposition.
The reality is, when telcos race to the bottom on price, it leads to crap service, zero innovation, and no incentive to expand to underserved areas. WM is trying to flip that model. By sending 85–90% of revenue back into the sharing economy (to AirNode operators, Hex Guardians, etc.), they’re making it viable to actually grow coverage and quality where it’s needed.
I’ve personally used the Travel eSIM in Asia. Could I have saved a few bucks with another provider? Sure. But those cheaper plans came with throttled speeds and spotty coverage. WM gave me top-tier roaming and better reception than most locals around me. You really feel the difference.
WM probably won’t ever be the cheapest, but it will come down in price with time and in a lot of places, it’ll be the best option, or even the only one. It’s not for everyone yet, but for what it’s aiming to do, the pricing makes sense.
I think it really depends on how good the coverage is for your needs. For certain use cases, these new plans can actually be solid value. If you’re someone who travels constantly across the US (like a trucker, first responder, or salesperson) and never knows where you’ll end up, being able to tap into all three major networks is a huge plus.
Personally, I hate being out of coverage. It’s not the cheapest option out there, but if reliable signal anywhere is your priority, it can definitely make sense.
